Kilkerran 8YO tasting notes

Bourbon Cask Matured

Color: golden.
Nose: wrapping paper, ash, electrical tape, heated rosin, rye bread with caraway, bacon, cherries, apples, peat, tooth powder, engine oil, oatmeal, pine needles, black peppercorns, apricots, a bit of smoke, wet newspaper, lemons, dried herbs. Beautiful.
Taste: oily notes, honey, lychees, red apples, apricots, pepper, peat, lemons, vanilla, medicinal herbs, barberries, chocolate. Starts off sweet, but oh what a lovely acidity follows.
Finish: lemons, orange marmalade, quinces, pears, pepper, dark chocolate, mint, a touch of peat, vanilla, medicinal herbs.
Score: 9. Between good and excellent. +2+2+2.
Conclusion: this Kilkerran is bourbon cask matured, and what a beauty it is. Sometimes it feels just like Springbank. 91/100. I think this is the best Kilkerran out of fourteen I have tried between 2019 and 2025. A truly great Campbeltown malt.
