Ardnamurchan 2018/2025 tasting notes
Jul. 10th, 2025 05:10 pmArdnamurchan 6YO OB for ImpEx Beverages 70cl 60.3% ABV
Single Cask series
Distilled 2018; bottled March 18, 2025
Cask type: unpeated first fill Spanish oak ex-Oloroso Sherry hogshead
Cask no: 359
Bottle 19 / 308

Color: dark amber.
Nose: figs, seaweed, dates, over-roasted nuts, lacquered wood, chocolate, plasticine, cherries, tea, orange peel, allspice, cocoa. Thick and fragrant. With water: a bit of smoke, bacon, ripe pears, apples, hay. Now it opens up!
Taste: dark chocolate, bourbon, pears, redcurrants, salt, oranges, cherries, cinnamon, nutmeg, toffee, lemons. Quite a few sweet notes, but some sour ones too, makes the whisky very drinkable despite the high ABV. With water: plums, cranberries, oak.
Finish: chocolate, spice, lemons, cherries, apples, pears, cranberries, salt. With water: plums, more spice.
Score: 8 ¾. Better than good. +2+2+1. (Without water: +1+2+1.)
Conclusion: a solid Murchan bottled exclusively for ImpEx Beverages, my first single cask from this distillery. Lots of sherry influence, but the whisky is not overly sweet. Better with water. I would love to get their single peated cask release one day, of course. 87/100.
